Broadband internet connections advance 7%, to 3.8 million in 2013

Broadband internet connections in Romania reached 3.8 million in 2013, up 7 per cent from the previous year, while 60 per cent of the individual landline internet connections allow data transfer speeds of at least 30 Mbps, according to the annual report released on Monday by the National Communications Administration and Regulatory Authority (ANCOM).

Out of the total number of broadband internet connections, nearly 3.5 million belonged to individuals, up 8 per cent form 2012, while the number of broadband connections for legal entities levelled out at 340,000.

On the other hand, the coverage of landline broadband internet connections per 100 inhabitants was 18.8 per cent, up 1.2 per cent. The coverage per 100 households also increased by 3.4 per cent in 2013 to 46.2 per cent.

Statistics indicate that nearly 1 million connections of the total of 3.8 million connections were in the countryside, up 13 per cent from 2012, with the remaining 2.8 million in the urban areas, up 5 per cent. AGERPRES
