Mr. Cristian David, Deputy Minister for Diaspora visited the Romania Embassy from Washington, DC. Mr. John Banu, the President of the Romanian American League, used this opportunity to go there and meet with Mr. David, to convey the South Florida Romanian American community’s desire to have a General Consulate in Fort Lauderdale.
During the meeting with Mr. David and His Excellency, Ambassador Adrian Vierita, the subject of the needed consulate was extensively discussed. Mr. David agreed that the consular services offered by the Romanian government would be necessary and beneficial to the large Romanian community from South Florida. Furthermore, Mr. Banu, had an official meeting with Mr. Cristinel Petrescu, Consul of Romania, on the same subject.
Mr. Petrescu was also positive regarding establishing a General Consulate in South Florida.
Mr. Consul expressed his support and assured Mr. Banu he will start the due process to implement consular services as soon as possible.
In turn, Mr. Banu expressed the Romanian American League determination to be the driving force behind this endeavor and the commitment to financially support the consulate facilities.
In stating this, Mr. Banu was carrying the message of the large number of South Floridians who support a Consulate locally. Over one thousand responded to a League survey on this subject, expressed their support.
