Austrian investors interested in developing PPPs in Romania

Minister Delegate for Infrastructure Projects of National Interest and Foreign Investments, Dan Sova, had a meeting with a group of Austrian investors interested in projects to be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) in Romania.

06141220350402658According to a release of the Department for Infrastructure Projects of National Interest and Foreign Investments (DPIIS), the Austrian delegation was made up of representatives of a group operating internationally specialized in financial services and of a company interested in developing projects under a public-private partnership in the field of healthcare.

Dan Sova presented to the Austrian delegation the projects that are about to be launched under the PPP system in Romania and emphasized on the government’s willingness to help the foreign investors get involved in achieving such complex projects in Romania.

‘The Romanian government has initiated a new law on PPP especially to encourage foreign investors to successfully get involved in developing large projects in Romania’, Sova stated.

The second half of the meeting was devoted to the possibility of developing public-private partnerships in the Romanian healthcare system. Thus, the Romanian dignitary explained to the members of the Austrian delegation the advantages of such partnerships, especially in the university centres in Romania with a long tradition, such as Iasi (eastern Romania), Cluj (central-western Romania) and Brasov (central).

Austrian companies have invested in Romania approx. 9.4 billion euros until 2012, representing 18 percent of the total direct investments, a figure placing Austria second in the ranking of foreign investors in Romania, after the Netherlands. AGERPRES
