The Castle of Huniads is a former Middle Age stronghold of the 14th century, which Iancu de Hunedoara, prince of Transylvania and governor of Hungary (1407-1456) turned into a castle, in the 15th century, and it is one of the most important Gothic architecture monument in Romania. It is unique in Eastern Europe and representative for the Middle Age civil and military architecture. It is a stately building with many towers, bastions and a donjon, and in the Middle Age time, it used to be both a strategic fortified point and a Feudal residence, alike.
At each entrance, the Castle of Huniads has bridges supported by stone pillars, and their last segments are mobile.
In 1880, the Castle is declared a historical monument, and starting Dec 1, 1918, it passes to the care of the Commission for Historical Monuments.
A Museum opens in the Roman Royal Camp inside the Castle, starting 1974 and documents first mention it in 1364. AGERPRES
