The National Liberal Party (PNL) President told a news conference on Monday that the Rosia Montana project cannot be backed up, and he specified he makes the statement strictly in his personal name.
‘I want to make a statement in my own name (…), it affects neither the Senate nor the National Liberal Party. Today, although the talks in the Parliament have not started, I have a firm and finally outlined standpoint about the Rosia Montana project, namely I think the project cannot be endorsed. It should either be withdrawn (…) or rejected. I reached the conclusion not for technical reasons, but because there are major consequences and realities, which currently hinder the project’s approval,’ the PNL leader stressed.
In the opinion of the Senate’s President, the organization of a national referendum is not opportune.
Crin Antonescu pointed out he had not yet talked with PNL co-President and PM Victor Ponta, about his stance, and he highlighted that a first reason why he does not support the Rosia Montana gold mining project is because this is a far-reaching national project. AGERPRES
