Romania will be the host for the first time of the World Dancesport Championship Youth Standard (16-18 years category), to be carried out simultaneously with the World Open Transylvanian Grand Prix, over September 20-22, the last to be hosted by the Dumitru Popescu Colibasi Sports Hall in Brasov (central Romania), according to a release remitted to AGERPRES.
This is for the first time in the history of the Romanian dancesport when the World Federation grants Romania permission to organise such an important competition, namely the World Championship.
Participating in the event will be athletes from more than 40 countries on four continents.
The main contestants for the first place on behalf of Romania will be Vlad Paslariu and Eszter Pop, a pair of Romanian ‘ambassadors’, having already won the first place in dance competitions 67 times, the second place 28 times and the third place 11 times. They have also won the title of national champions seven times and four times Romania’s Dancesport Cup. The pair ranked 4th in the European Championships this year, carried out in Cambrils (Spain), 3rd in the World Championship in Moscow, in 2010, 3rd in the German Open Championship, the biggest dancesport event of the world, in 2008 and also 2nd in 2010 and 2013.
Vlad and Eszter were part of the Romanian dacensport team for three consecutive years, winning two silver medals, in 2011 and 2013 and one gold medal, in 2013, according to the abovementioned release.
Once with this year’s edition of the World Championship, Brasov City will also host the World Open WDSF Standard and Latino Transylvanian Grand Prix, a competition to bring together more than 2,000 athletes from all over the world, to participate in different age categories: 6-9 years, 10-11 years, 12-13, 14-15, 16-18, 19-35 years respectively, both in the standard and latino sections.
