Government takes steps in Brussels for “mititei” to be introduced in category of traditional products

The representatives of Romania’s Government in Brussels will take steps for the product ‘mititei’ to be introduced in the category of traditional products together with the burgers and the Spanish sausages ‘chorizo’ so that the ‘mititei’ produced in keeping with the current recipe will no longer be forbidden.

05021709947431375During the working group to be held on Thursday as part of the European Commission (EC) the representative of Romania’s Government will present the request made by the Romanian Meat Association for the recipe of the product ‘mititei’ to be included on the list of traditional recipes, informs a release issued by the press office of the Government.

‘The representatives of the Government will take all the necessary measures to include the ‘mititei’ on the list of traditional products and think that this one and any other measures that must be taken are a correct and normal solution, which is also supported by the representatives of the meant producing industry. The Romanian authorities will take all the necessary measures for the ‘mititei’ not to be forbidden in Romania’s territory,’ reads the above-mentioned release.

The Government makes it clear that the discussion in the European Union only refers to the industrially produced ‘mititei.’

The press informed in the past few days that in keeping with a European directive, the production of ‘mititei’ made in keeping with the current recipe should be forbidden. This directive forbids the use of sodium carbonates, a preservative and an antioxidant, in the composition of the products made of processed meat. These food additives are used in the recipe of ‘mititei.’ AGERPRES
