A plant of oil drilling components and systems opened at Aricestii Rahtivani, Prahova County (southern Romania), in the privately-owned Ploiesti West Park as a facility of US company Lufkin Industries, on a 140-million-US-dollar investment.
Data released by Lufkin officials indicate that the facility covers 330,000 square metres comprising a plant equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies as well as a modern maintenance and repair workshop.
For the construction of the plant, the Romanian Government extended state-granted aid worthy 28 million euros.
Lufkin Industries President and CEO John F. “Jay” Glick told the opening ceremony that the plant in Romania is an essential step in the company’s global development strategy. Geographical expansion, he said, allows the company to better serve its international customers and the company is anticipating that the Romanian plant will become a strategic hub for markets in the Eastern hemisphere. This new centre will also facilitate the expansion of customer portfolio and help the company capitalise on the increase in demand for oil and natural gas exploitation equipment, according to Glick.
The Lufkin plant in Romania is currently employing 260 workers, which, according to the company’s officials, should reach 350 by the end of the year.
The main business of the plant is the manufacturing of Lufkin air balanced pumping units, of which more than 1,100 units are expected to be made at the plant.
Nearly 90 per cent of the output is bound for exportation to more than 20 countries.
“This plant will become Lufkin’s regional strategic hub to serve the European market as well as Central Asia, North Africa and the Middle East,” Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Bucharest Duane Butcher told the opening ceremony.
“Lufkin’s operations here represent a happy marriage of U.S. cutting edge technology and Romania’s heritage and expertise in the oil industry. Together they offer the promise of transforming Romania into a regional hub in the energy field. The presence of the Oil and Gas University, and of a technically capable and highly educated workforce, in Ploesti is a major asset for Lufkin and for Romania,” he added. AGERPRES
