The National Liberal Party (PNL) lawmakers will not vote the amnesty law and demand that it be removed from the agenda, said PNL’s National Chairman Crin Antonescu after the PNL’s National Political Bureau meeting.

“As to the amendments to the Criminal Code, we will vote against those amendments, en bloc, to avoid any discussion. At the same time, we demand that the Government and the Ministry of Justice prepare, in full transparency, by consulting all those who are qualified for that, a draft amendment to solve the problems that really exist in the current Criminal Code and which are solutions aimed at improving the structure and the quality of this Code,” he added.
Asked whether this proposal to the Government and the Ministry of Justice does not actually mean amending the law, Antonescu gave a negative answer.
“A draft amendment is worded in plain sight, where deemed appropriate, by consulting everyone, in full transparency. The things will be substantiated, will be discussed in the judiciary’s institutions and in the Association of Magistrates, will be subject to a public debate and will be assumed by our Government with the support of the parliamentary majority at the Ministry of Justice. I think this is the shortest, the clearest and the best way,” said Antonescu.
As to a possible re-examination of the law sent by President Traian Basescu, the PNL leader said: “We reject these amendments, even if our MPs have voted them, for reasons I explained yesterday. It is about political decisions of the Bureau, which have imperative force for all the MPs,” explained Antonescu.AGERPRES
