Ponta: Government endorses with 50 million euros construction of Bucharest Multifunctional Arena

The Government will grant 50 million euros for the construction of Bucharest Multifunctional Arena, Victor Ponta said on Monday, at the signing of the protocol for building Bucharest Multifunctional Arena, concluded between Romania’s Government and the Capital City Hall.

‘The Government will directly financially endorse the construction of a multifunctional hall that Bucharest and Romania need. We do not have such a thing in Romania, we cannot organise a great national or international competition and I do not believe there still are European capitals that do not have such a hall. (…) I want us to support the General City Hall, we delivered the deadline, the feasibility study, I know they initiated the procedures and I would like you to sign the contract next year, at the latest,’ the Prime Minister said.

In his turn, General Mayor Sorin Oprescu said that Bucharest would need an Arena of 12,000 seats.

‘We needed a multifunctional arena with a capacity of 12,000 seats. Today, by signing this protocol, we are making the most important step towards the achievement of this investment. We want at the end of 2015 to invite you to see that we kept our promise,’ Oprescu said. AGERPRES
