Romania to use British experience to develop public-private partnerships

Britain is willing to offer specialised technical expertise and consultancy for developing projects under a public-private partnership (PPP) in Romania, UK’s ambassador in Bucharest Martin Harris said at a meeting with Romanian Minister-delegate for Infrastructure Projects of a National Interest and Foreign Investments, Dan Sova.

04301739776458938According to a release issued by Sova’s Department, the ambassador’s proposal comes as the Romanian authorities have made efforts to modify the public-private partnership law and it considers the over 30-year experience of the United Kingdom in the PPP implementation.

Sova and Harris discussed about the European situation and Romania’s priorities with respect to the major infrastructure projects.

‘The number of the projects implemented by means of the public-private partnerships has dropped in the European Union over the last years, amid the financial crisis. Thus, as you know, only 66 projects conducted by the PPP were signed in 2012, most of them in Great Britain. Around 70 percent of these projects were in education. We appreciate your experience and I consider we can co-work with a view to implementing such projects in Romania as well, the more so since by re-arranging the legal outline, we from now on have a functioning judicial figure. We appreciate your openness and it will be useful the moment we draw up the norms for the enforcement of the PPP Law’, the minister stressed.

The two sides, moreover, voiced certainty that the relations between Britain and Romania will develop and the results will be advantageous to both sides, the release said.AGERPRES
