Romania, U.S. carry out drills at shooting range near Craiova

The troops of the Romanian 20th Infantry Battalion dubbed the Black Scorpions took part in fresh training drills at Balta Verde Shooting Range near Craiova (246 km south-west of the capital), alongside the troops of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe (MARFOREUR) as part of the multinational exercise Black Sea Rotational Force 2013 (BSRF-13).

The joint Romanian-U.S. drills were carried out with the reporters attending, they were of the ‘platoon on offensive’-type and entailed both setting the tactical details of the operation and the operation proper.

At the end of the exercise, both the Romanian and American troops said they were satisfied with the way it had been conducted.

I think the exercise went on very well. It was extremely useful for us and it is great to work by the side of the military from other countries. I like Romania very much, said William Oblak, a Sub-lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

“The American troops are satisfied with this collaboration, they have only praise and consider us a reliable partner, always ready to successfully accomplish its missions”, company commander Captain Stefan Cosmin said.

Lt Col Oliver Anghel, a public relations officer with Craiova-based 2nd Rovine Infantry Brigade, explained that the joint action of the Romanian and U.S. troops, being carried out over two weeks at three shooting ranges in Craiova represents a phase in the BSRF-13 multinational exercise unfurling over Feb. 25-Aug. 30 in Romania; participating in this event are a 360-troop MARFOREUR detachment, a-150 troop detachment from Armenia, 106 military from Macedonia and six troops from Bulgaria.AGERPRES
