The Romanian authorities and the World Bank (WB), during the visit paid to Romania by WB President Jim Yong Kim, agreed on creating a knowledge hub in Bucharest, according to a release the Ministry of Public Finance (MFP) sent to Agerpres on Friday.
The knowledge hub aims to make easier the transfer of expertise in the field of reforms and the best practices in Romania and other countries in the region.
The two sides also discussed and agreed on setting up, as part of the Prime Minister’s Chancery, a unit meant to implement the public policies that should be a model of coordination and monitoring the priority governmental programmes so that they should yield the expected results.
On Thursday, May 9, there was a high level working meeting with the representatives of the World Bank, which was moderated by Daniel Chitoiu, Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Public Finance, in his capacity as governor for Romania within the World Bank group. The meeting was occasioned by the visit paid to Romania by Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank, a visit that comes to recognize the importance of the relationship between the Bank and Romania, a sophisticated client of the Bank and an active shareholder.
‘The meeting occasioned a sustained exchange of opinions on the importance of the fiscal consolidation process for ensuring economic stability, Romania’s current economic situation and potential priority actions meant for the activity of the World Bank group in Romania, considering the medium and long term development strategy and the pledges Romania has made in its capacity as a European Union member state,’ reads the MFP release.
The Romanian authorities reiterated the pledge to continue the reforms in the field of the fiscal administration for improving the voluntary compliance, for firmly combating fiscal evasion and for increasing the efficiency of the collection, in the field of increasing the absorption of the cohesion and structural funds, through the technical assistance supplied by the Bank especially for preparing the next period of financial programming, for improving the management of spending and making public investments a priority, for continuing and intensifying the reforms in the field of health, for speeding up the reforms of the educational system and university research in Romania.
