After her success in Doha (Qatar) last week, Romanian tennis player Simona Halep became the 12th player in the history of women’s tennis to have won seven consecutive finals in the WTA circuit.

If she succeeds in winning also the next final she plays, Halep will equal American Serena Williams, the world’s No. 1, who won eight titles in eight consecutive finals, played between 2012 (Charleston) and 2013 (Brisbane).
Leader in this regard is German Steffi Graf, with 15 trophies in as many finals played in a row, followed by Belgian Kim Clijsters (11), American Venus Williams, Serbian Monica Seles and Belgian Justine Henin, all with 10 consecutive titles each.
Aged 22, Simona Halep has entered the elite of women’s professional tennis after this successful streak, which will place her at No. 7 in the WTA weekly rankings on Monday. The Romanian player is currently injured in her right ankle and had to pull out from the tournament in Dubai in the first round, with doctors recommending a 10-day rest period .
In 2013, Halep won the tournaments in Nuremberg,’s-Hertogenbosch, Budapest, New Haven, Moscow and Sofia, and this year she has won in Doha. AGERPRES
