The festival organized at Sapanta by president of the Intercultural Traditions Association Peter Hurley continues this year.
According to organizers, the 2013 edition will be named after a local hero – Stan Ioan Patras – creator of the Merry Cemetery in Sapanta. The festival is to be run between August 15-17, under the auspices of Sapanta Town Hall, in partnership with the National Tourism Authority.
Seven young musicians from seven countries are to meet for the first time in Romania and will spend seven days together in Maramures. The musicians invited to the first edition of Romania Roots Revival from Turkey, Iran, Republic of Moldova, Armenia, Romania, Ireland, Lebanon will travel through Maramures villages looking for traditions and rituals that inspire the traditional music.
They are to explore life at the country, will participate in the holidays, meet musicians and folk craftsmen, watch the locals work, learn their habits. Meanwhile, they are to transpose their experiences into music, improvising together.
An experimental concert will be born from this voyage, to be presented as a first in Sapanta, on August 16, and then in Bucharest, on August 19.
Through this experiment, we want to show respect and dignity that peasant music and hence rural civilization deserve, Peter Hurley emphasized. The peasant civilization of Romania is a treasure to us all and should be valued as such. During the days spent in Maramures, this group of musicians seek an authentic peasant life, from which the authentic music springs. We want to prove that your live traditions can be a very powerful source of inspiration for a group of established young musicians, Hurley added. AGERPRES
