Romania will be the first country to ratify the Association Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, Senate Speaker Calin Popescu-Tariceanu this Wednesday assured President of the Moldovan Parliament Igor Corman, while on a visit to Chisinau, AGERPRES special correspondent Dana Piciu reports.

“Moldova can rely on Romania’s full support for everything that related to its European path. I want to salute the great success of the visa system liberalization that benefits numerous Moldovan citizens and particularly young people, who naturally have a higher mobility. There will of course be a subsequent stage, I am referring to the process of ratification of the Association Agreement by the EU member states. On behalf of the Senate, I pledged Romania to be the first country to ratify the EU — Rep. of Moldova Association Agreement as a clear and unequivocal sign of our support for the Republic of Moldova’s European path,” Tariceanu said after the meeting with Igor Corman.
The Senate Speaker added that the Republic of Moldova deserves congratulations on the remarkable progress made in the last period and for having proven to be a country the EU seeks to get closer to.
“The extremely concerning political crisis is on top of our agenda, and from this perspective we had an extremely helpful exchange of opinions. What I can tell you is that we pay attention to and consider the relationship with the Republic of Moldova as a privileged one, and I believe that the benefits your country draws from the rapprochement to the EU are visible, they can be measured especially in the context of the regional political crisis,” Tariceanu mentioned.
Calin Popescu-Tariceanu invited Igor Corman to come to Bucharest on June 17, when the Senate of Romania celebrates its 150th anniversary, and also gave assurances that the exhibition “Made in Basarabia” will run flawlessly. AGERPRES
