Researchers of the Babes Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca (central west) found the Crested Pterosaurus, a species of dinosaurs which has been never signaled in Romania, before, and this in Alba County (northwest of Bucharest), Professor Vlad Codrea announced, during the International Conference on Recent Preoccupations in Research, Conservation and Capitalization of Cultural Patrimony that the Mures County Museum organizes in Targu Mures.
Prof. Codrea stressed that the discovery happened after the enlargement of the researches in the Hateg, Alba County, more exactly in the perimeter between Sebes, Alba Iulia and Vurpar, where many dinosaurs fossils have been found.
During the latest years, we have tried to expand our searches a little, and show that such fossils exist not only in the Hateg area, but also in a very beautiful zone of the Alba County located between Sebes, Alba iulia and Vurpar, for instance, where besides dinosaurs, there have been found traces of other animals that used to live there 70 million years ago, such as the flying reptiles of the so-called Pterosaurus (meaning winged reptiles) Group. We found there a very interesting piece proving that an exotic group, not signaled in Romania before, used to live there, and whose roots are in the South American crested Pterosaurus,’ Prof, Codrea said.
According to him, it was found the crest of a Pterosaurus, and it has been already scientifically processed together with the US scientists.
‘It is a novelty in Romania, and it enriches the national paleontological patrimony. It also raises geographical interpretations, I mean regarding the prehistoric geography, and they are to be given answers from now on,’ Prof Vlad Codrea concluded. AGERPRES
