Premier Victor Ponta said on Monday that the draft law referring to Rosia Montana would be included on the agenda of the Senate and rejected and that the same held good for the Chamber of Deputies.
Ponta made it clear that he had come to Parliament to make sure that the draft law would be ‘rapidly’ included on the agenda.
‘I have heard the statement made by Mr Blaga and the one made by Mr Atonescu. Things were not quite clear in one direction or another in the Social Democratic Party either, opinions are divided. … I want to make sure that Mr Antonescu, President of the Senate, rapidly includes the draft law on the agenda of the Senate. It will be rejected. … The same holds good for the Chamber and this draft law has come to an end. I, in my capacity as Prime Minister, must find other solutions for foreign investments and for the creation of new jobs,’ Ponta added when he was in Parliament.
He described the street protests as being “very important,” but thinks that “it may have been better if there were a longer debate.”
“May be it would have been better if there were a longer debate, but if the decision has been made, practically we shall rapidly start the rejection procedure in the Senate, it will be also rejected in the Chamber and this is an end to it,” also said Ponta.
Ponta made it clear that in the Social Democratic Party (PSD) there was no “unitary pro or con, in PSD things are divided.”
“When the majority is clearly against it, it is no use our delaying things any longer,” also said Ponta.
The Prime Minister added that there would be trials of the Romanian State with the company involved in the Rosia Montana project.
“Anyway we are going to have some trials, but I am saying it once again that I do not want myself or other ministers to be accused of undermining the national economy. I want Parliament to decide, political leaders have made a decision and one must clearly vote for bringing this procedure to an close,” also said the Prime Minister.
Chairman of the National Liberal Party Crin Antonescu told a press conference on Monday that the Rosia Montana project could not be endorsed and made it clear that he spoke strictly for himself. AGERPRES
