Mr. Titus Corlatean, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, was in Washington on a working visit with the American government. During his visit, he met with organization leaders representing Romanian-American communities in the United States. The meeting held place on April 29, 2014 at the Romanian Embassy in Washington, D.C. Our very own, Mr. John Banu and Mr. Ovidius Lebada, were in attendance and represented the Romanian-American League of Florida. Aducem la cunostinta membrilor organizatiei noastre, precum si a celorlalti membri ai comunitatii Romana-Americana din Florida, faptul ca Guvernul Romaniei, prin Ministerul pentru Romanii de Pretutindeni a acordat organizatorilor fonduri pentru sponsorizarea Festivalului Romanesc Renasterea.  Salutam aceasta hotarare a Guvernului Roman care onoreaza organizatia nostra si dovedeste interesul acestuia in mentinerea si promovarea identitatii si traditiilor natiunii Romane. After months of serious consideration, we sadly decided to cancel the First Romanian Festival, Renaissance, in Hollywood, Florida, scheduled for the weekend of May 3-4.  We came to the conclusion that at this time, there simply is not sufficient interest, funding and involvement from the community and local businesses to justify the efforts and expenses to implement such a big undertaking.  We accept that the goal to host such a large event was a bit lofty and too ambitious for such a young organization. As a non-profit organization, Romanian American League, initiated a forum and a campaign to obtain the support of the Romanian American Community to have a Consulate General of Romania in South Florida. Due to relentless efforts and lobbing made by the League, the Romanian Government and its Embassy from Washington DC, had agreed to accommodate an Itinerant Consulate to operate  in Hollywood Florida. It is a first initiative with a great achievement for the League.  The Itinerant Consulate office will cover all sorts of legal services provided by a General Consulate with the same fees.
