European Council closes excessive deficit procedures for Romania

At a meeting of the EU’s Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) on Friday in Luxembourg, the European Council unanimously closed excessive deficit procedures for Romania, Romania’s Finance Ministry reports in a press release. “This decision is official recognition of the fact that Romania’s general government deficit was kept below the 3-per-cent target in 2012 and also of the credibility of the budgetary policy for 2013 and 2014, as the European Commission confirmed the Romanian Government’s forecast of fiscal consolidation,” reads a press release issued by the ministry. Armenia, Romania news agencies Armenpress and Agerpres sign cooperation agreement

The national news agencies of Armenia and Romania – Armenpress and Agerpres respectively – signed an agreement on cooperation and information exchange in Minsk. US Lufkin Industries opens 140 million-US-dollar facility in Romania

A plant of oil drilling components and systems opened at Aricestii Rahtivani, Prahova County (southern Romania), in the privately-owned Ploiesti West Park as a facility of US company Lufkin Industries, on a 140-million-US-dollar investment. Data released by Lufkin officials indicate that the facility covers 330,000 square metres comprising a plant equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies as well as a modern maintenance and repair workshop. Romanian Gov’t approves acquisition of F-16 aircraft

The Romanian Government on Wednesday passed a draft piece of legislation concerning the acquisition by Romania of multi-role aircraft that will submitted it to Parliament for final approval, the Press Office of the Government reports. Romanian national radio broadcaster’s drama Suzana wins bronze at New York International Radio Festival

Radio play Suzana produced by the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation (SRR) has been declared the Bronze Radio Winner at this year’s edition of the New York International Radio Festival. Private labels account for 12 pct of total value of consumer goods market

Private labels have gained ground at an accelerated pace in recent years, coming to account for 12 percent of the total value of the consumer goods market, compared to 2% in 2007, shows a GfK survey sent to Agerpres. The number of households that bought at least once a private label from any retail format has reached the maximum as early as in 2011 – with more than 9 out of 10 Romanian households having bought private labels.
